THE STORY SPACE
The UK Pavilion, designed by artist Wolfgang Buttress in collaboration with engineer Tristan Simmonds and architectural practice BDP, is inspired by the journey of the honey bee and highlights the vital role of pollination in the global food chain.
THE STORY NARRATIVE
The journey begins in a garden of wild flowers and culminates in a sensuous, immersive experience in the spherical heart of the pavilion, surrounded by the soporific thrum of ambient sound, as 360° lighting and sound effects link in real time to the activity of a living beehive.
“It’s uncanny. There’s so many components, the LED causes a haze that defeats the eye a bit. I’ve never built a wildflower meadow on a scaffolding platform before. This is a unique piece of art”
